1. Why have you introduced PayPal giving?
We have introduced PayPal giving as an alternative method for the congregation to give offering.
2. Is Mosaic continuing with weekly Sunday giving?
Yes, Mosaic is continuing its tradition of Sunday giving during the weekly offering time to “TKPC Mosaic Community Fellowship” or “TKPC EM”. Online giving has been introduced solely as an additional method, not a replacement.
3. What if I have reservations about online giving?
Please come talk to our Leadership Team about these reservations and we will work together to address them. Again we’d like to emphasize that the option to give tithing physically during Sunday Worship will still be offered. We encourage people to continue to tithe in the manner that best reflects the meaning and purpose behind tithing for them.
4. What are the costs for PayPal?
All administrative and transactional costs for PayPal will be covered by Mosaic. There is no extra cost to the donor. Through PayPal, Mosaic will incur a fee of (1.6% of donation) + (30 cents per donation) per transaction. Thus, we kindly ask Mosaic members to set up a monthly lump-sum donation if possible. As an example, instead of four transactions for offering at $100 weekly, a one-time per month tithe of $400 will incur a smaller PayPal fee.
5. When can I get a donation receipt for PayPal donations?
You will receive a donation receipt for the previous year during tax season. For example, 2017 donations receipt will be issued around February 2018. Please refer to question #6 to see which receipt to use.
6. Will the stated/recorded amount of my giving be the amount that I give minus the PayPal service fees?
No. You will receive full credit for the donation you made regardless of PayPal service fees. Mosaic will incur the cost of PayPal’s service fees.
7. Can I use the PayPal receipt as a donation receipt?
It is better to wait for the official donation receipt to be issued from TKPC Mosaic EM as this receipt will have all the relevant information and a comprehensive list of all donations given for that calendar year.
8. Should I give my mailing address on PayPal donations?
You are not required to provide your address to PayPal; however, if you have not previously provided Mosaic with your contact information it will be difficult to track and issue a donation receipt to you. Please see one of the Leadership Team members to update your contact information or email tkpc.mosaic.finance@gmail.com
9. What if I want to give anonymously?
If anonymity is important to you, then physical cash donations would be the best means of giving. We cannot receive anonymous donations through PayPal.
10. What assurance is there that my information and privacy are safe?
We do not collect information through the website for donations. All information is collected on PayPal’s portal and you can refer to PayPal’s website for their security measures (https://www.paypal.com/ca/webapps/mpp/paypal-safety-and-security). We take your information and privacy seriously, following the Presbyterian Church of Canada (PCC) standards to safeguard it.
Other Offering Housekeeping Reminders for Sunday Donations
- Please use offering envelopes when possible for this ensures we can properly track donations for tax receipts.
- If you forget your envelope, please indicate your envelope number on the cheque or on the blank envelope. Moving forward, for reasons related to privacy, Finance team will no longer be able to search existing envelope numbers and match it to the appropriate names. An offering given without the envelope number will be accounted for in a general offering total, and will not count towards your yearly tax receipt. We suggest members to keep a record of your envelope number in your phones.
- If you wish to make a special offering—in addition to your tithe—please indicate on the envelope or cheque the portion of the total offering amount that should be allocated to this special fund, and the category of this special offering. For example, if an offering of $600 is given [$500 of which is the tithe, $100 of which is for a special offering] one would indicate on the envelope or cheque “$100 for Benevolence Fund.”
